Shoulder Grooves and Skin Irritation due to your Bra
Shoulder grooves and skin irritation are too common complaints I hear about bras. Both of these complaints are most commonly linked to the band of the bra being too big.
The band of your bra (the part that goes around your trunk) provides the majority of support in our bra, therefore if the band is too big it doesn’t optimally fit you. As a result the straps are working a lot harder than they should and start to dig into your shoulders and create grooves.
If our band is too big, it can move and rub against our skin especially at the front. This problem is exacerbated in sports bras when sweat is also present, skin irritation is even more common.
Both of these problems are extremely uncomfortable and don’t look pleasant but can be easily solved by wearing a band that optimally fits you.
Check your shoulders for grooves. Lift both arms to the ceiling whilst standing side on to a mirror. Does the band lift away from your trunk when your arms are up? If so, you can imagine how much movement and friction is happening between your band and the skin and how skin irritation occurs.
The fit of a bra is the most important thing, don’t get hung up on sizes; ensure the fit is optimal.
